In Vitro diagnostics (IVD) assays are a subset of medical devices used to detect or monitor diseases, medical treatments, medical conditions, or infections.
Tests are performed on human or animal samples, using swabs from the nose or throat or via blood taken from a vein or fingerstick. In vitro testing can be performed on a variety of instruments ranging from small hand-held tests to complex lab instruments.
